Yesterday, 8 March, International Women's Day, the President of Confindustria Est Europa, Maria Luisa Meroni, took part in the web-talk entitled “Women and Business: informal conversations between Italian and Polish women entrepreneurs”, organised by Confindustria Polonia in collaboration with Assolombarda's STEAMiamoci project, launched in 2016 with the idea of promoting concrete action to reduce the gender gap.
The meeting took the form of a conversation between several women speakers, Polish and Italian, who shared their successful entrepreneurial and managerial experience.
The meeting underlined the importance of the role of education which, as President Meroni also recalled in her address, is a fundamental element in overcoming gender stereotypes, thereby encouraging women too to acquire knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics: the so-called STEM subjects.
The webinar also brought out some valuable advice for young women with the ambition to pursue a managerial career: the importance of believing in oneself, of not giving up one's feminine qualities, of developing a strong sense of responsibility and of sacrifice, but also the importance of knowing how to listen.
The collaboration with STEAMiamoci has also been taken up by Confindustria Bulgaria, which at the beginning of February organised an event entitled “The challenges for women entrepreneurs in the STEM world and the pandemic”, which once again saw the participation of President Meroni.
As Maria Luisa Meroni — the first woman President of Confindustria Bulgaria and of our Federation — recalled during yesterday's meeting, even though women have come a long way in their political, social and economic achievements, “there is still much to be done”.
