The General Council of Confindustria Est Europa has unanimously elected Patrizio Dei Tos as the new President of Confindustria Est Europa.
Dei Tos, an entrepreneur from Treviso in the wood and furniture sector, has just completed his term as President of Confindustria Serbia. He succeeds Maria Luisa Meroni at the head of the Confindustria federation that brings together the representative offices of Eastern Europe, with over a thousand Italian member companies.
«I am honoured by the trust my colleagues on the General Council have placed in me – explains the new President, Dei Tos – I believe strongly in internationalisation as the principal opportunity for growth for our companies and for the Italian economy. In 2015 my company opened a plant in Serbia not to relocate but, precisely, to internationalise and strengthen control over the supply chain in search of quality raw material. In my years as President of Confindustria Serbia I came to appreciate the strength of the Italian system abroad, made up of able and respected entrepreneurs and of a diplomatic corps of the highest calibre».
The Eastern European region is growing by 3% a year, with a progressive rise in per capita income as well. In this context Italy is consistently among the top trading partners of the countries in the area. In 2023 trade amounted to 99 billion, with growth across all sectors, from traditional ones such as manufacturing and infrastructure to more advanced ones such as services for the energy transition and artificial intelligence.
«Eastern Europe is an area of strategic interest in economic as well as geopolitical and cultural terms – concludes the new President – In line with what successive Italian governments have expressed in recent years, we strongly support the accession of the remaining Eastern countries to the European Union, a fundamental piece in a process of fragmentation of globalisation and of value chains. We entrepreneurs, besides producing wealth for our employees and the communities in which we operate, feel the duty of being a bridge between cultures. To paraphrase the French liberal Bastiat, we must work to ensure that it is goods that cross borders, and not armies».
